Winery in the mountains near Santa Cruz California. The "Big House" line is bottled in screw cap, with a label that features a searchlight, tied-together sheets trailing from a prison window, and the exhaust pipe of a speeding getaway car. Ransom-note type explains the wine is from California’s Bonny Doon Vineyard, " just out of reach of the state pen in Soledad. "
Big House White. A field blend of riesling, muscat, sauvignon blanc, french colombard, chenin blanc, viognier, pinot gris, marsanne, roussanne and verduzzo. Wonderful musk-melon, pineapple nose coupled with the reassuring scents of grapefruit and gooseberry. Good acidity but presenting a very soft, delicate texture on the palate.
Big House Red. A field blend of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and dozen or so other red grape varietals, the Big House Red is spicy, ripe, juicy and bold, with hints of black cherry, raspberry and white pepper. Enjoy with grilled chicken or kebabs.
Cigare Volant. Cigare Volant -- the so-called "Cryptoneuf-du-Pape", inspired by the great wines of the southern Rhône. The Cigare Volant is made from 36% mourvedre, 34% syrah and 30% grenache and is a very big wine that would benefit from aging.
