In the U.S., BEA opened its first branch in New York City in April 1984. The federally chartered New York Wholesale Branch offers commercial and wholesale banking services, including trade finance and syndication loans. In April 1991, the Bank established a bi-coastal network with the opening of its third U.S. branch, this time in Los Angeles. In addition to the full range of retail banking services offered by the New York Branch, the Los Angeles Branch offers commercial and real estate lending, trade finance, and syndication loans to corporate customers. In line with its strategic objective to establish a network of full service branches in key locations nationwide, BEA formed its U.S. national bank subsidiary in August 2001. This was achieved through the acquisition of Grand National Bank, a two-branch community bank headquartered in Alhambra, California. Grand National Bank changed its name to The Bank of East Asia (U.S.A.) N.A. ("BEA-USA") in August 2002, to reflect its membership in the BEA Group.
