I got a call from LA Times reporter Ron White the day before yesterday who found this site and wanted to do a story about what some people believe is an improving export situation. He was on a deadline so I had to scramble to get him some interview contacts and gave him the names and contact information of several members of this network. I'm not sure if anyone got called - I know he tried with at least one member here, but this is about the third time I been contacted by reporters doing the exact same story, and have done my best each time to help out. Last month it was Fox News in LA who needed to get a camera crew out that very afternoon. The month before, some business publication in the Bay Area. Not once, however, have gotten this site mentioned in a report or article. Which would have been nice, since it would help us recruit new members here. Here is the story as published in yesterday's LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ports16-2009dec16,0,5640551.story. With all due respect to Ron (who has been invited to join this community) that story is pretty mundane. A few quotes from port officials - the same old thing. Not his fault, these guys really need more time to do their stories. Newspapers should do what bloggers can't - more in depth "investigative reporting". Otherwise, they really aren't that different than bloggers, and people will continue to migrate to new media for their information.
